A BOM is only a formula for building a FG/WIP. There is more to injection molding than just a BOM for building parts. It is called manufacturing lot. Even the most sophisticated medical companies have the wrong lot implementations which causes a complete breakdown of tracking down the chain. GMSMrp on the other hand implements a real lot structure and a bulletproof tracking mechanism based upon that. This ensures that every production parameter is recorded and connected to the correct identity and its source.
Even barcode printing is a process for the GMSMrp system. Users cannot simply print out whatever they please, which is the case with most of the ERP systems. Since they are highly controlled items, they are tracked and recorded too. Users do not have a choice of overrides. Instead, system asks them to specify a few inputs and then prints and logs everything in the background.
GMSMrp tracks every release of FG with a box identity. Each finished goods identity can be connected to a QA inspector that is held accountable for every release that he or she performs. The benefits of this system are almost unlimited. First of all the FG inventory can never stray from the correct path. Secondly, there is a complete connectivity to a human being that is always held accountable to what he or she releases. This forces every QA inspector to perform their job extremely carefully.
![]() FG and raw material movements between the production floor and the warehouse are treated as trackable processes in the GMSMrp system. Warehouse personnel are not allowed to haul away any inventory from the production floor to the warehouse unless they scan and get a clearance from the scanning system. Shipments are broken down by pallets and controlled by customer service to ensure accuracy and FIFO control.
